All power equipment related activities contribute toward plant performance and thus business profitability, and return on investment. Being the "Best-in-class" is not necessarily the best objective to meet business needs. All asset management activities must consider the operational needs of the production process, natural maintenance windows in the production schedule, critical bottlenecks in the process, and the built-in redundancy of each piece of equipment. The criticality, the failure modes and the failure consequences of each piece of equipment impacts business performance. The discussion on Motor Management activities should be optimized to meet the business plan rather than simply maximized or minimized.

• Reducing direct spending (on maintenance, procurement or energy)
• Reducing costs of carrying inventory
• Increasing plant production through higher uptime (from fully planned maintenance and minimized unscheduled shutdowns); and/or managed risk on budgets.
